Those auditioning can attend either evening.

Based on the novel by Sandra Fenichel Asher, Everything Is Not Enough is the story of Michael and life after high school. The show is being directed by Meghan Hubbell and Bree Hicken. Show dates are November 28 and 28 and December 4 and 5.

NITWITS This Weekend

Only two NITWITS shows left this year. The first is October 3, this Saturday. The last is November 21. The show begins at 8 pm and the cost is $5 at the door.

NITWITS is NCTC's improvisational comedy troupe. They perform skits on the fly, similar to Drew Carey's Whose Line Is It Anyway?. It's a great price for a fun evening of comedy and laughter.

NITWITS is not recommended for all ages. They try to stay in the PG-13 range, but it can go into the R-rated range. Since it's improv, one just never knows what's going to happen!

NCTC: Behind The Scenes at Tom Sawyer

Here is the first video from our NCTV team, a behind the scenes look at Tom Sawyer. Great job by the entire team!

Volunteer Opportunities

We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities at the theatre right now. Here are some current needs.

Box Office/Ushers/Concessions/House Managers: If you'd like to help in any of these areas during The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Sept. 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, and 27), please contact Mike Patterson at info@newnantheatre.org.

Theatre Seating: We need someone who would be interested in organizing the installation of the new seats. If you're an engineer or building inspector, we could also use your expert opinion. We also need volunteers willing to clean and scotch guard the seats and help to reconfigure the seating area and build new stairs. Contact Rick Olsen at managing-director@newnantheatre.org if interested.

Lawn Care: We need people to mow the theatre's small lawn and maintain it. Please contact Mike Patterson at info@newnantheatre.org.

Prop Master: Someone to maintain props in the upstairs prop department. Contact Laurel Alford at turtlehouse1@yahoo.com.

Directors: Experienced or not, please contact Darren Mathews (dmathew1979@yahoo.com) if interested in directing a show in 2010.

Some current items we need donated: Old computer monitors, preferably LCD; Tape (all types), scissors, staplers and staples, copy paper (white and colors), black markers. Items can be dropped off at the theatre any time.

Thanks Bob!

Ten days ago Rick (my husband, NCTC's Managing Director) and I went to a funeral for Bob Lech. Most of you probably didn't know Bob. However, without his help, NCTC wouldn't be where it is today.

There are many people who have shaped the theatre in its 32 year history and everyone is important. But at the time we met Bob, the theatre was at a pivotal point. At that time Laurel Alford was the theatre president, Terri Morrison was vice president, Dave Dorrell was artistic director, and Rick and I managed the house. We were just getting into a good groove of organization, something quite difficult for a 100% volunteer-run group to do.

During a show one evening, Bob approached me and said that he sees many plays, but we are really great. He said he wanted to help us out. We were always, as we are now, interested in anyone lending us a helping hand. He would often joke that his wife Jill told him not to ruin us.

Over the next year or so Bob taught us about publicity and promotions and networking. He secured a $1,000 donation from the Newnan Kiwanis for the theatre. He attended chamber and Kiwanis meetings and many other functions on our behalf. Bob taught us how to take NCTC to the next level, how to grow, expand, how many theatre organizations work, and so much more. If you've seen a red Newnan Theatre vest, or wore one, you have Bob to thank. If you've worn a theatre polo shirt, that was also Bob's doing. If you've ever used the theatre's ice maker, that too we received thanks to Bob's networking. Those are just a few things Bob helped us with.

Sadly, Bob got cancer and didn't have the strength to help us out as much. He lost his battle with the disease on August 30. He never stopped supporting NCTC though. He, along with his wife Jill, continued to be a season ticket holder, although they hadn't attended a play in quite some time.

Bob was a great friend of the theatre. He used his talents to help us grow. He was never on stage and had no ambition to be an actor (at least none that he ever shared with me). He was a wonderful mentor. His guidance was so very important in where we are today.

Now we have a board and an operating committee (which not everyone likes, but I digress). We've been able to survive and thrive, pay the rent, pay the theatre bills, and put on great shows. We have more season ticket holders than ever before. NCTC doesn't want to be the best kept secret in Newnan. Bob helped us immensely in spreading that "secret."

Thank you, Bob. You will be missed.

Want to direct a show in 2010?

NCTC is looking for directors for our 2010 season. The seven shows on the Main Stage are What the Butler Saw, Death of a Salesman, Cabaret, Psycho Beach Party, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds, Fuddy Meers, and Miracle on 34th Street. Anyone interested in directing any of these shows needs to schedule a pitch meeting with Darren Mathews, the theatre’s Artistic Director.

The “pitch” is a competitive audition of the director’s vision of the play. The meeting is informal, but a full knowledge of the play is recommended. NCTC would like to hear a clear, fully thought-out idea with what the director wants to emphasize. Some specifics about set, lights, sound, logo, publicity, etc. are always helpful. The theater is full of talented people and space is plentiful, but because they are a community theatre; there are some limitations. Please consider this when coming up with your vision. The pitch idea chosen will be the one that best considers our audience while addressing the theater’s resources and limitations, with the director’s own unique vision on top.

The theatre will also be scheduling pitches for their Black Box Theater. NCTC hopes to present black box shows during the weeks they are not presenting something on the main stage. The funding for these shows will be low, but the content can be as diverse as you choose. However, not all pitches can be accepted due to time, resources, and/or content. Use the same criteria listed above when planning your pitch.

If you are interested in pitching a show for the 2010 season on either the main stage or in the black box, please contact Mathews via e-mail (info@newnantheatre.org) with the show, time of year, director’s name, phone number, e-mail and the best day of the week/time to schedule the pitch.

NCTC would like to hear from experienced directors, those who haven’t directed at NCTC in a while, newer directors with just one or two shows under their belt, or even directors with no experience but have a great idea and energy to try and direct.

"Down The Road" replaces "Misery"

The thought-provoking drama, Down The Road by Lee Blessing, will replace Misery on the NCTC 2009 season calendar.

The play is about a couple who are writing a book about a convicted serial killer. The play revolves around their interviews of the killer, William. The show is being directed by Spencer Jordan.

Auditions for Down The Road will be held on September 9 and 10, Wednesday and Tuesday, at the theatre. They'll begin at 7 pm. Actors may attend either evening and will do a cold reading from the script. There are three roles available. They are Iris Henniman, the writer; her husband Dan; and the killer William Reach.
